Tony Mowbray is taking leave from his day-to-day management of Birmingham to receive medical treatment.
The Championship club say he'll temporarily step away for six-to-eight weeks, with assistant boss Mark Venus taking charge until he's back.
Mowbray's not given any details about his diagnosis, but has thanked Birmingham for their support and says he'll continue to offer advice from afar.
