Altior retired

One of national hunt’s modern greats, Altior, has been retired.

The horse is about to turn 12, and trainer Nicky Henderson says it's the right time to step away from competition - so that the animal can enjoy a "new career" while he's fit and healthy.

Altior won 10 Grade 1 races - the top tier - and twice finished first in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at the Cheltenham Festival.
