Southern Health Board receives over 1 billion euro.

The Southern Health Board budget is receiving in excess of 1 billion euro from the government for 2004. The funding was announced today and will be allocated for hospitals in the Cork and Kerry region. Last years budget was over 930 million euro with over 50 million extra provided through out the course of the year.The Southern Health Board budget for 2004 is a over 80 million euro extra than was provided last year. Its unknown as of yet whether funding has been provided for the building of a car park at Tralee General. An overall figure of 6.8 million euro has been provided for in respect of consultant posts and support costs of which Tralee General will receive 1 million euro.I.5 million is going to cancer services in the 4 main hospitals under the Southern Health juristiction. Services for older people including the home help service and the Elder Abuse Programme are to receive 1.4 million. Nursing programs are allocated 2.5 million for the development of the profession next year.
