South West of Ireland is most popular holiday destination.

New figures released from the Central Statistics Office show the South West of Ireland is the most popular holiday destination for Irish people in the country. In excess of five and a half thousand people opted to stay over night in Kerry and Cork in 2002. Over 1400 people travelled to the region in day trips in 2002, with this number slightly decreasing last year.Towards the end of 2003 83% of total international travel was to Europe with Spain being the most frequently visited holiday destination. The number of domestic holiday trips is expected to grow by 3.6 million by 2006. Brian Maher of Fáilte Ireland is welcoming this.
