South West has second highest population in Ireland

The South West region of the country is one of the highest populated regions in the country after Dublin. Over 597,000 people are currently living in the region. 20-24 year olds represent the largest number of that figure with over 47,000 people resident in the South West. Nationally Ireland is experiencing a population boom. CSO figures estimate just over 4 million people living here, the highest figure since 1871. Gerry O Hanlon from the CSO says there is a number of reasons for this.
