The cutting of staffing grants to childcare centres in the county in September will lead to an increase in fees and the closure of many centres according to South Kerry Development Partnership. The issue was raised in the Dail by Deputy Breda Moynihan Cronin, who says it is an attempt to make childcare less affordable to families and lone parents. Childcare Co Ordinator Kay O Mahoney says without the grant many centres are not sustainable.
