Skellig Rangers Advance In the County Junior Premier Club Championship

On a spectacular evening in Portmagee, Skellig Rangers welcomed Division 2 and favourites for the game Listowel Emmets in round 2 of the Junior Premier Club Championship.

Skellig Rangers registered the first point of the game in the second minute through Diarmaid Keating, Michael O Sullivan soon put the Rangers 0-2 up with some fine play by Ronan O Shea.

In the 6th minute Ronan O Shea scored a belter of a point from 35 yards out leaving it 0-3 to 0-0 with 7 minutes gone.

Listowel Emmets kicked there first point of the game soon after leaving it 0-3 to 0-1 with 10 minutes gone.

Diarmaid Keating scored a free in the 16th minute putting the Rangers up by 3.

Listowel Emmets played in a high ball in the 18th minute but man of the match Padraig O Sullivan beat Noel Kennelly in the air punching it out to corner back Stephen O Sullivan who took on his man and played a great ball into Diarmaid Keating who slotted the ball over the bar leaving it a 4 point game with 19 minutes gone.

Listowel Emmets got 2 points in a row making it a 2 point game with 25 minutes gone.

The North Kerry side had a goal chance in the 26th minute but Padraig O Sullivan made a cracking save with his left foot putting it out for a 45.

Listowel pointed the 45 leaving it 0-5 a piece with 27 minutes gone.

Listowel went in front for the first time 30 minutes into the first half leaving the half time score 0-5 to 0-6 to Listowel Emmets.

It took 7 minutes for the first score in the second half when Diarmaid Keating again kicked a great point from an acute angle leaving it a level game again.

Skellig Rangers took the lead 9 minutes into the second half when Brendan O Sullivan played a fantastic ball into his brother Michael who scored a fine point from an acute angle.

Listowel took on the Skellig Rangers back line and slotted the ball over the bar again leaving it all to play for with 20 minutes left.

Skellig Rangers Bernard Walsh went on a tearing run up the field and passed the ball to Ronan O Shea who took on his man and drew the free.

Daniel O Sullivan slotted the free over the bar from 35 yards out putting the Rangers up by 1 point with 17 minutes left to play.

The turning point of the game came in the 15th minute when Steven O Sullivan made a great run up the field from the corner back line passing it to Ronan O Shea who took his man on again and drew the free for the second time.

Listowel Emmets Brendan Guiney received his 2nd yellow of the game and Listowel were down to 14 men.

Daniel O Sullivan again kept his cool and slotted the free over the bar from 35 yards out leaving the score 0-9 to 0-7 to the Rangers with 16 minutes gone.

On the 20th minute Listowel Emmets broke from the back line through a short kick out and passed it off to Conor Cox who passed it off but Skellig goalkeeper Padraig O Sullivan pulled off a point blank save to keep Skellig Rangers in the game with 9 minutes to go and the rebound of the shot was picked up by Stephen O Sullivan who kicked it to Martin O Sullivan , Martin played the ball into Ronan O Shea who pointed from 45 yards out with the outside of his boot.

This put Skellig Rangers 3 up with 8 left to play.

Skellig Rangers Mikey Keating scored a monster of a kick in the 23rd minute of the game putting Skellig up by 4 points.

Listowel Emmets threw the kitchen sink at it and got 2 frees in a row leaving it a 2 point game with 1 minute to go.

Skellig Rangers had nerves of steel when Gerard O Sullivan played a great ball to Brendan O Sullivan who calmly slotted the ball over the bar leaving the full time score Skellig Rangers0-12 to Listowel Emmetts 0-9.
