Six Kerry men selected to be among Rose Escorts

ROSE of Tralee, Maggie McEldowney, has challenged young Irish men to see if they have what it takes to be a Rose Escort at this year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival from 16-22 August 2017. The Festival takes its name from a 19th century love song, so it was fitting that Maggie and the reigning Rose Escort of Year, John Slowey, would choose Valentine’s Day to launch the search for lads aged 21 to 30 to take part one of the most famous international festivals in the world. March 16th is the entry deadline, so lads will have one month to apply at www.roseoftralee.ie/apply. Photo By : Domnick Walsh © Eye Focus LTD

Six Kerry men have been selected to be among the 64 Rose Escorts at this year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival.

Thomas Lynch, Joseph Meehan, Sean O’Connor, Niall O’Hara, Shane Thornton, and Jackie Healy-Rae Jnr; have all been chosen.

Around 200 men aged between 21 and 30 applied to become Rose Escorts, the final 64, the most ever, were selected to take part in a Boot Camp this weekend in Kerry.

Over the course of the weekend, the Rose Escorts experienced the visitor facilities in Castlegregory, Derrynane, Waterville, Valentia Island, Dingle, Kerry Head and Tralee.

At the festival one of the 64 lads will be selected as the Rose Escort of the Year live on RTÉ One on Monday 21st August.
