SIPTU suspends industrial action at Liebherr

SIPTU have suspended industrial action at Liebherr Container Cranes due for this week.

The union, which has 450 members at the Fossa based plant, had been in dispute with the company over what it claimed were unilateral changes to its members terms and conditions

SIPTU held a one day series of one-hour stoppages across all departments at Liebherr in March.

Separately, the union was in talks with the company at the Workplace Relations Commission last week on the issue of changes to the sick pay scheme.

At the same time, it was continuing with its industrial action over other terms and conditions saying it could not enter into talks about these until the changes were reversed.

It had been due to have two days of rolling one-hour stoppages across departments for two days this week but has now suspended these and will go into talks at the WRC on Thursday.

It’s understood that the talks are expected to cover all areas of dispute.

Members of Connect trade union went on a one day strike last month at Liebherr but have since suspended their action and also entered into talks at the WRC.
