Single Farm Payment Scheme introduced for farmers

A new era for Kerry farmers begins this week with the introduction of the Single Farm Payment Scheme. Over 120 thousand farmers in Ireland are currently receiving their statements of provisional entitlements. Director of Livestock with the Irish Farmers Association, Kevin Kinsella pointed out this is not new money for farmers. The payment is to maintain the European model of agriculture, where farmers are responsible for maintaining the countryside, meeting environmental standards, for animal welfare and for food safety. Mr. Kinsella urged farmers to examine the offers carefully.
