Shortage of nurses to blame for empty beds at Caherciveen Hospital

The General Manager of community services in the county Tom Leonard says a shortage of nurses in South Kerry is to blame for the empty beds in Cahirciveen Hospital. Almost a quarter of beds are empty in the facility. The Irish Nurse`s Organisation says they have failed to ensure there are adequate numbers of full time permanent staff to cover routine things like holidays, study and sick leave. But Mr Leonard says attempts to recruit extra nursing staff have failed so far.
