Nappies, rods and a sheep’s head were among the items found in a Tralee sewer.
Councillor Pa Daly, who claimed that a river in the town was being used as an open sewer, says during times of heavy rain, the sewer overflows and runs into the Big River.
Following an investigation, Irish Water discovered a blockage, which has now been cleared.
The Sinn Féin councillor says many items flushed into the sewerage system are not biodegradable and, due to the age of the system, it’s easy to block the pipes.
He’s calling on people to be more aware of what they’re flushing down the toilet.
