The Southern Health Board is launching a campaign to tackle obesity and promote physical activity in Kerry. The aim of the countrywide campaign is to generate awareness and of obesity which is a growing national problem. Increasing numbers of people are presenting at hospitals in Kerry and Cork with illness’s connected with obesity and lack of physical activity. This effort by the Southern Health Board is part of a national campaign by Health Minister Michael Martin.A national task force on obesity was set up by the Department of Health earlier this year. The main message from the campaign is that obesity in particular is a lifestyle choice. To tackle this the Southern Health Board are organising a series of talks and activities around the county. The varying programmes have a designed relevance to all ages from 5 years of age to adulthood. The programmes will be held in Family Resource Centres, Primary, Post Primary and Community Hospitals across Kerry.
