Secondary school students in Kerry miss more school days

Secondary school students in Kerry are missing more school days than the average student across the country. schoolbooks That’s according to the National Educational Welfare Board’s Analysis of School Attendance Data 2010/11. The figures show that in Kerry, 9% of post primary school days during the 2010/11 academic year were lost through absenteeism; the national average was 8%. The average number of pupils who were absent twenty days or more was also above average in Kerry, at almost 20%; nationally the figure was 18%. However Kerry has lower rates for expulsions and suspensions in secondary schools; and when it comes to primary schools, absenteeism, expulsion and suspension rates were below the national average in Kerry during the 2010/11 academic year.
