Sculpture unveiled in Waterville as part of Per Cent for Arts scheme

A sculpture has been unveiled in the Village Green in Waterville today as part of the Per Cent for Arts scheme.

It’s a government initiative where 1% of the cost of any publicly funded development can be allocated to the commissioning of a work of art.

The Waterville sculpture marks the final element of the €18 million Waterville Water and Wastewater Project, which was completed in late 2013.

Artist Holger Lonze was commissioned to create the sculpture, which embodies the legend of Amergin, the Milesians and the arrival of the first Gaelic Peoples in Ireland in Ballinskelligs Bay.
