A Kerry TD has hit out at a lack of support from the two main parties at a Sinn Fein motion on a farm payment scheme.
Sinn Fein Agriculture Spokesperson Martin Ferris said the motion aimed to improve the terms of the Areas of Natural Constraints Scheme.
However, the motion was defeated in the Seanad after failing to get support from Fianna Fail and Fine Gael.
Deputy Ferris claimed Fianna Fail had indicated support for the motion previously and this amounted to a u-turn.
Fianna Fail has said Sinn Fein’s dishonesty with farmers knows no bounds saying the party used a procedural trick to misrepresent their position.
Agriculture Spokesperson Charlie McConalogue added Fianna Fáil has consistently called for a review of the scheme to ensure that increased payments reflect the natural constraint of each land type.
