Rose of Tralee fundraiser is cancelled

A fundraiser for The Rose of Tralee which was scheduled to go ahead tomorrow night has been cancelled due to lack of interest. The money raised was to be used for the street carnival in August. How the town contributes to The Rose of Tralee has been a source of discontent in recent years, traders argue they don’t benefit from the event while the organisers claim its true worth isn’t recognised. The recent report to businesses said the town collection wouldn’t happen until after the festival in August. In the meantime, corporate tables of ten at 1500 euro each would be sold to help raise what’s needed. A spokesman for the festival says people have told them the idea of a February fundraiser is the wrong approach and they will contribute to the town collection in the normal way.
