Remains of one of the crewmen lost in Rescue 116 tragedy recovered from wreckage

The remains of one of the crewmen lost in the Rescue 116 tragedy has been recovered from the wreckage off the coast of Mayo.

His body is being brought to shore by the naval vessel the LE Samuel Beckett this afternoon.

The crewman’s family has been informed and formal identification is expected to take place at Blacksod pier shortly.


The land and sea search is continuing for two other members of the coast guard crew.
