Redundancy negotiations begin at Listowels Stag Plant.

41 staff at Listowels Stag Plant have been notified as to who is to be left go at the plant. Staff at the plant were told on Friday that 28 people were to be made redundant but were left in the dark over the weekend as to who the staff members were. Talks have begun with union representatives to negotiate a redundancy package for workers. The 13 remaining staff at listowels imperial stag factory is to continue trading as normal despite the loss of 28 staff at the factory. The company still has debtors and creditors and although production will be on a smaller scale, the knife manufacturing plant will continue to trade. Members of the Town Council expressed their sympathies with the workers who received notification of the redundancy on Friday.However Mayor Tim O Leary says that it`s perhaps time the town began to focus more on local indigenous industry as a source of employment in the town. With the construction of incubation units at the Clieveragh Industrial Park, Councillors agreed that it was more realistic to encourage more industry from local employers. Members of the council are to meet with North Kerry oireachtas representatives to discuss the closure of the town`s first industry in Listowel. A delegation will then arrange to meet with Tanaiste Mary Harney.
