Rathmore to host Kerry’s first St Patrick’s Day parade today

Kerry’s first St Patrick’s Day parade this year gets underway this afternoon in Rathmore.

‘Rathmore Go Green’ is the theme and Grand Marshall is journalist and author Aidan O’Connor.

All floats are welcome as there are a number of prizes including the Frank Buckley Cup for best overall float, along with best commercial, organisation and agricultural float.


Other prizes include best dressed buggy, best dressed pet and there will be face-painting and street entertainment.

The parade begins today at 2 o’clock; Rathmore St Patrick’s Day Committee PRO Michael O’Mahony says its been going from strength to strength since its establishment seven years ago:

 

 

The road through Rathmore town will be closed to facilitate the parade; there will be a detour in place at Dennehy’s Corner for traffic from Killarney on to Clounts and Shinnagh Cross on to Mallow & Millstreet.

Traffic from Mallow and Millstreet will detour at Shinnagh Cross to Shinnagh Upper and on to Mill Cross  for Killarney.
