Public Meeting called over shellfish farm applications

A public meeting has been organised in Tuosist tonight by the National Inshore Fisherman’s Association over concerns about a number of aquaculture licence applications in Kenmare Bay.

The meeting has been called to discuss concerns about an application for a 93-acre mussel farm along the local coastline, as well as the high number of applications which have been submitted to the Department of Agriculture Food and the Marine over the past month.

The Department commissioned the Independent Aquaculture Licencing Review Group report in 2017 which called for an overhaul and streamlining of the aquaculture and foreshore licencing system.

The meeting takes place at the Lake House in Tuosist at 8pm.
