Public consultation begins on realignment of Sneem to Blackwater road

Members of the public are being invited to have their say on the proposed realignment and improvement of a section of the main Ring of Kerry road between Sneem and Blackwater.

The project involves the improvement of approximately 4.5km of the N70 national secondary route.

The 4.5km section of road begins in the townland of Ankail, approximately 4km to the east of Sneem village and ends in the townland of Doon, approximately 3.5km to the west of Blackwater Bridge.

It includes the provision of a new road surface and a separate cycleway/pedestrian facility.
Proposed works will involve the widening and realignment of the existing road with land acquisition required.

It is proposed to undertake a public consultation in relation to the emerging preferred alignment at the Sneem Hotel, on 27 April 2017 from 10am to 8pm.

The event is open to all members of the public – members of the design team will be present to outline the proposals and address any queries that may arise.

Following the public consultation, it is proposed to finalise the design of the route and the Environmental Impact Statement (EIS), and, subject to approval from Transport Infrastructure Ireland, make an EIS application to An Bord Pleanála later in 2017.
