Kerry County Council will this morning receive presentations from a number of candidates seeking support ahead of the upcoming presidential election.
Only four candidates have confirmed their attendance at today’s special meeting in council chambers.
Ahead of the presidential election in October, all prospective candidates have to receive the support of at least four local authorities or 20 Oireachtas members.
Kerry County Council says only four candidates have confirmed they would like to present to the council.
Businessman Gavin Duffy, journalist Gemma O’Doherty, musician Jimmy Smith and a representative from the group William Delaney 1957 – 1970 will address councillors and council staff from 9:30am.
This is a special meeting called by the cathaoirleach, and each of the attendees will be given time to make a presentation, followed by a short period for questions.
Any resolution on nominating a candidate will be dealt with at the September monthly meeting on the 17th of this month, ahead of the presidential election on October 26th.
