Proposed price cuts cause concern in the beet industry

Beet farmers in North Kerry will be wiped out, should proposed price cuts by the EU be implemented, according to The National Chairman of The Beet Committee. Jim O Regan says 40 beet growers in the Ardfert area will be affected if the EU cuts the price paid to beet farmers by up to forty percent. Mr O Regan says the sugar industry in Ireland will be devastated should the price cuts be introduced.
