Former Fianna Fáil councillor John Joe Culloty disagrees with the former minister’s appointment as UN special envoy on freedom of expression and the manner in which the decision was made. It also emerged this morning that Ms Zappone had organised an outdoor gathering of 50 friends and former colleagues, including Tánaiste Leo Varadkar, at the Merrion Hotel in Dublin which has led to questions as to whether this breached COVID-19 guidelines. This afternoon, Katherine Zappone said she won’t accept her appointment by the Government to be the UN special envoy on freedom of opinion and expression.
