Plans rejected for hydro-power scheme in West Kerry

Plans for a controversial hydro-power scheme in Brandon in West Kerry have been rejected. Planners turned down the scheme for three reasons based on visual amenity and stability of the site. It was the second attempt by UK-based Ingleby 451 to get planning amid strong objections from people living nearby. The case went to An Bord Pleanala last year, but was withdrawn by the company.A fresh application was lodged in May and was again opposed. The South-West Regional Fisheries Board was unhappy with the environmental impact statement. An Taisce, the Irish Peatland Conservation Council and four local people objected to the scheme.
