Planning permission granted for solar farm outside Killarney

Planning permission has been granted for a solar farm outside Killarney.

An Bord Pleanala has given the green light to Terra Solar for the development at Coolcorcoran and Coolgarriv off the N22 Tralee Killarney road.

Kerry County Council had granted permission, but locals had appealed it citing adverse impacts on property values, fears about visual impact, and glint and glare issues.

However An Bord Pleanala has granted permission for the solar farm for a 25-year period, subject to 14 conditions; work on the development must start in the next ten years.

The development comprises 20,000 square metres of solar panels, and it’s located near a substation which provides a potential connection point to the national grid.
