Planning permission for nine-turbine windfarm near Kilgarvan is refused

Planning permission for a nine-turbine windfarm near Kilgarvan has been refused. planning drawings5 SWS Energy Limited applied for planning permission to Kerry County Council to construct the windfarm in the townlands of Derrincullig, Curraglass South, Cappanlivane, Redrench North, Meelick, and Coologes. Kerry County Council turned down the application; however this decision was appealed to An Bord Pleanala. An Bord Pleanala backed Kerry County Council’s decision. In its report, the planning authority said a wind development of the scale proposed would create a significant visual intrusion on the landscape. It also found that given the relatively recent re-introduction of the White-Tailed Sea Eagle to Ireland the Board is not satisfied that the proposed development would not negatively impact on this formerly native species.
