Planning officials critical of decentralisation.

Building and planning officials are warning that the decentralisation of the Department of Arts, Sport and Tourism, along with the Department of Finance to Kerry will lead to inefficiency. The five planning bodies, which include the southern branch of the Royal Town Planning Institute, are warning that the removal of over 200 civil workers from Dublin to the county could ignite competition between every town in the country for investment and development. The group says that under the decentralisation plan there would be much more immediate costs incurred in meeting the needs of the decentralised offices and personnel. Paddy Purcell from the Institute of Engineers of Ireland says the current policy is a mistake.
