Planning has been approved for the building of 28 social housing units in Tralee.
The decision was taken at the monthly meeting of Tralee Municipal District.
There are currently over 1,900 (1,932) people on the council housing waiting list who have selected Tralee town as an area of choice in which to live in.
This new development will have four one-bedroom apartments, 12 two-bed two-storey houses and 12 three-bed two-storey houses on a 1.14-hectare greenfield site between Connolly Park, Stack’s Villa’s and Scoil Eoin Balloonagh.
Three submissions were received on the planned development including a petition from the residents of Connolly Park, Rockwell Close and Rock Park Avenue who didn’t have an issue with the development but the main concern was the access road.
Senior Engineer Tom Sheehy said it is a condition of the planning permission that the Connolly Park junction with Rock Street will be upgraded before any of the units is occupied.
The tendering process to secure a contractor will now begin.
