Plan to manage vegetation burning including Kerry has been criticised in the Dail

A plan to manage vegetation burning has been criticised in the Dail.

A proposal within the Heritage Bill allows for the managed burning of vegetation at certain times within the existing closed period on a pilot two-year basis.

The debate follows a number of serious forest and gorse fires nationally and in parts of Kerry including a major gorse fire in Kenmare in April.

According to the Irish Examiner People Before Profit TD Brid Smith said that extending the burning period would have a negative impact on wildlife.
