A petition has been submitted to government for a new naval vessel to be named after Antarctic explorer Tom Crean.
There’s a campaign underway for some time to get an LE Tom Crean in honour of the Annascaul native.
Tim Foley from Manchester has compiled a petition with 5,600 signatures; he’s submitted it to Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and the new Minister for Defence, Paul Kehoe.
Mr Foley says the MPV Flagship is in planning and should be constructed in the coming years.
He’s awaiting a response from government, but is very hopeful there’ll be a new naval ship named in honour of Tom Crean soon.
