A period of detention has been extended for two men arrested in Cahersiveen who rammed a Garda car while being pursed this morning.
The men, in their late twenties and early thirties, were initially held for six hours.
Gardaí confirmed this period has been extended – the men can be held for a maximum of 24 hours.
A dark Honda with a registration of 97 DL first came to Garda attention last night and was sighted again by Gardai this morning in Cahersiveen.
A pursuit ensued and vehicle failed to stop – at one point the vehicle rammed the Garda car however nobody was injured.
Gardai arrested the two men in the car this morning at 10.45am; they were held at Cahersiveen Garda Station for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act for an initial six hours.
This period has been extended – they can be held for a maximum of 24 hours.
Gardaí also confirmed a forensic and technical examination of the vehicle is taking place.
