In recent years increasing numbers of refugees and asylum seekers have been forced to flee from conflict zones and authoritarian regimes in different parts of the world. The plight of those attempting to enter Europe has made headlines on a regular basis, which has brought attention to the issue of human rights.

Here are the thoughts of one local woman who has felt compelled to do something to help people who have come to Kerry, and also those remaining in their homelands, who are striving for equality and fairness.

The local Amnesty group in Tralee meets once a month, every second Tuesday of the month, in the Tralee International Resource Centre at St Patrick’s Bungalows, Boherbee, at 6pm.
