A therapist at Parknasilla Resort and Spa in Sneem has been named Employee of the Year by the Kerry branch of the Irish Hotels Federation.

Roland Ujbanyi was crowned at the Kerry IHF awards luncheon in the International Hotel, Killarney yesterday, and will now go on to represent Kerry at the IHF national conference in Galway in February

A native of Hungary and a qualified PE teacher, Roland came to Ireland in 2015 unable to speak English and started work in Parknasilla as a kitchen porter.

He initially taught himself the language, and later enrolled for English classes, and worked his way up to the position of spa therapist.

Meanwhile, Geraldine Tangney, Food Services Manager at the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney, was also presented with a special recognition award; she has been a member of staff for the past 37 years.
