There will be an overhaul of the selection process for next year’s Rose of Tralee International Festival televised shows.
Anthony O’Gara, Chief Executive of the festival, says the pressure of reaching the televised selection nights is not fair on Roses.
From next year, the 60th anniversary, Rose centres will only have a contestant in the live shows every two years.
All 64 centres will attend the festival each year but they won’t have the added pressure of trying to make the selection nights.
Kerry, Cork and Dublin will make televised shows each year and larger international centres will have the opportunity to have a contestant on the live shows twice every third year.
Anthony O’Gara says this new format fits into the Rose of Tralee Ethos and will ensure no Rose is left disappointed.
Meanwhile, Paul Clabby from Roscommon is the 2018 Rose Escort of the Year.
The announcement was made during Monday night’s live broadcast.
