Over €300,000 to be spent on coroner fees

Just over €300,000 will be spent on coroner fees and expenses by Kerry County Council in the coming year. The local authority is obliged by law to cover the cost of this but has no influence on how the service is run.   Kerry County Council entrance Council management said that there is legislation dating back to 2007 on this area but no progress has been made. Kerry County Council says the transfer of this service from local authorities is long overdue. 84 of the 336 deaths reported last year led to a post mortem and inquest being held.
