Outpatients Department at TGH to close for festival week

The Outpatients Department at Tralee General Hospital is to close during festival week and over the Christmas holidays. The outpatient`s closure is set to take place despite assurances there would be no further closures this year. In April the Bord announced it was to close a 30 bed ward for 3 months in order to make a saving on holiday cover. But a month later the Bord rowed back on this decision, moving instead to close the ward for three weeks. At the time it was felt that attendance at Accident and Emergency was too high to do without a ward, but there was no mention of the closure later in the year. According to documentation obtained by Radio Kerry News under the Freedom of Information Act outpatients will be closed for the week of The Rose of Tralee Festival and during Christmas week. A spokesman for the hospital says the closure is in line with normal practice.
