A jury at the inquest of a woman who died in a HSE-run care home has returned an open verdict.
64-year-old Mary O’Connor of Milleens, Bonane, Kenmare was found dead at Cherryfield House, St Margaret’s Road, Killarney on February 10, 2016
She had passed away in the middle of the night.
A care assistant at Cherryfield House found Ms O’Connor was not breathing when she went to check on her at around 3am on February 10th, 2016.
Staff at the care facility had been keeping an eye on her as she had vomited earlier.
Nurse Noel Fleming said she had been in good form and was due to return home the following day for her mother’s first anniversary.
He contacted the doctor, the gardai and a priest. Her brother was contacted at around 4am and informed of her death.
A post-mortem examination was carried out at University Hospital Kerry.
The jury at her inquest returned an open verdict.
Ms O’Connor’s family and the HSE had legal representation at the coroner’s court.
