One in three Kerry births are outside of marraige

Almost one third of births recorded in the county in 2002 were outside of marriage. Figures from the central statistics office show that Limerick had the highest number of births outside of marriage nationally at over 50 per cent while Galway had the lowest at almost 20 per cent. The figures also show that there was a total of over 1400 births in Kerry during 2002, while there were over 1100 deaths in the county, four of which were infants under one year old.
