Oireachtas sub committee rules on case of Judges computer

The Oireachtas Sub-Committee investigating Judge Brian Curtin is to examine his computer. The committee has decided to make a formal order directing the production of the computer. A case against Judge Curtin for possessing child pornography collapsed after The Circuit Court found that his computer was seized illegally by Gardai. The computer was taken from his home by members of The Gardai and analysed, however the warrant used to search Judge Curtains home was out of date.Judge Curtin has not been listed for duty since the raid on his home in may of 2002. This latest order comes under Section 3 of The Committees Of The Houses Of The Oireachtas Act 1997 and follows a series of meetings in recent weeks. Judge Curtin’s legal representatives have been made aware of the decision. Earlier this year key elements in a High Court challenge to The Oireachtas Committee inquiry were dropped by Mr Curtins legal team, however this does not prevent them from mounting any further court actions.
