O’Connell Move To Toulon Said To Be In Doubt

Time is running out for Paul O’Connell to complete his move to Toulon. The Ireland captain is in the south of France today where he is discussing his proposed two-year contract with the three-time European champions French rugby newspaper Midi-Olympique reported this morning that Toulon have cooled their interest in O’Connell ahead of tonight’s deadline to register players for next season. The club are said to have reservations over a long-standing shoulder problem. O’Connell has already secured an early release from his contract with Munster and the IRFU. Later this evening, the Ireland Under-20s will take-on their Welsh counterparts in their 5th place play-off semi-final in Italy. Kick-off is at half-past seven, Irish time. Leinster have confirmed the appointment of two new members of coaching staff. Former Ireland back Kurt Mc Quilkin will take up a short term role as defence coach while John Fogarty takes over from Marco Caputo as scrum coach. Fogarty had been working as Elite Player Development Officer while mc Quilkin has previously served as defence coach with Leinster.
