North Kerry Tourism Officer Resigns

The tourism officer for North Kerry has resigned after just three weeks in the job. Brenda Galvin was appointed after the marketing body took over control of North Kerry from Shannon Development. Recruitment for a replacement has begun already however the region could be without a tourism officer for some time. This position is primarily a marketing role and involves co-ordinating local tourism efforts on the ground in North Kerry. The recruitment advertisement stipulates the hours can be unsocial and there`s a need for flexibility as there is also a lot of travel. Tourism operators say that the fact that it is a new position means the tourism officer has a blank canvas to work with. Brenda Galvin has declined to comment on the reasons behind her move however industry sources have indicated it`s not linked to the transfer from Shannon to Cork Kerry. The timing of this resignation comes as a blow to the area just as the tourism season is beginning.
