No time frame for appointment of new IT Tralee Chair

The Department of Education can’t give an exact timeline of when a new chairman will be appointed to IT Tralee’s Governing Body. ittraleeThe role has been vacant for five months. Former chair of the Institute of Technology Tralee’s governing body Flan Garvey retired in July. His term was not due to end until February 2016, but Mr. Garvey had come under pressure over allegations of plagiarism in a 2008 thesis, and his expenses. An investigation concluded the thesis was plagiarised, but the plagiarism was unintentional. Arising from this Quality and Qualifications Ireland is carrying out a review of the institute’s validation processes for postgraduate research degrees. The appointment of a successor is the decision of Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn. In a statement to Radio Kerry News the Department of Education said a chairperson would “be appointed in due course”.
