The number of electric cars registered in Kerry has jumped by over 175% in a year.
That’s according to figures from the Society of the Irish Motor Industry (SIMI) for February - when compared with the same month in 2024.
The report shows the total number of cars registered in the county fell by almost 15%, in comparison to the previous February.
310 new cars were registered in Kerry during February this year, down from 364 in the same month in 2024, a 14.84% decrease.
Manual cars recorded a drop of 46% (101 in 2025 from 187 in 2024), while automatic car registrations rose by 18% in February (177 in 2024 to 209 in 2025).
The report shows there was a 50% drop in diesel car registrations in the county in a year, with 68 registered last month, down from 128 on last February.
There was also a drop of over 34% (34.17%) in petrol cars registered, with 120 in the second month of 2024 to 79 this year.
Electric car registrations in Kerry jumped by 176% (176.47%), rising from 17 in February last year to 47 this year.
58 petrol/plug-in electric hybrids were registered in the county last month, a 93% increase (when 30 were registered); meanwhile petrol electric (hybrid) registrations fell by over 7.5% during the period.
The figures show, 1,083 new cars were registered in total in Kerry in the first two months of 2025.
