A Kerry dentist has renewed calls for updated legislations around unregistered dentists.
Dr Colm O’Loghlen of Bridge Place Dental in Tralee says the Dental Council continue to operate under laws written in the 1980’s.
According to the Irish Times, the statutory regulatory body for dentistry in Ireland, was unable to act in 80% of credible allegations about unregistered dentists since 2023.
Dr O’Loghlen says many within the sector have been calling for a new act around unregistered dentists for years.
He believes the current regulations were written for a different world and need to be updated.
