The country's highest number of Covid-19 cases in nearly five months has been reported today.
There are 783 new cases - the highest since February 20th.
There are 73 Covid patients in hospital, with 20 in intensive care
There were 13 additional hospitalisations in the past 24 hours.
Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Dr Ronan Glynn, said the latest data is showing clear increases in incidence of disease right across the country.
He said there is no question that the delta variant is having a considerable impact of transmission of COVID-19.
The variant is presenting with a different variety of symptoms than we have seen with other variants, including headache, sore throat and blocked or runny nose.
He urged anyone with symptoms of a cold or flu to isolate immediately and arrange a test.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Tony Holohan, said as we continue to re-open society and enjoy being able to meet loved ones again, it is important to remember that not all social situations are the same.
He said there are certain instances, that are riskier than others adding that COVID-19 spreads much easier indoors and when public health measures are not prevalent.
