New IT Tralee counselling programme allows continuation of training at Cuan Mhuire

A new counselling programme launched at the Institute of Technology Tralee will allow the continuation of training at Cuan Mhuire.

Brosna native, Sr Consilio founded Cuan Mhuire, which provides residential detoxification and treatment for addiction at centres across the country; today she launched the new BA (Hons) in Counselling with Addiction at IT Tralee.

It’s a collaboration between IT Tralee, Cuan Mhuire, and Galilee House of Studies, which provides a higher education undergraduate diploma in counselling in Co Kildare.

There’s a four-year degree course, as well as an add on course for people who are already counsellors but need a level 8 award.

The course was developed in response to a change in regulations, according to Gerardina  Harnett, the Head of the Department Nursing and Health Care Sciences at IT Tralee.

Speaking at the launch today, Sr Consilio says she’s thankful to IT Tralee for developing the course, saying without this new honours degree, their training at Cuan Mhuire couldn’t continue.
