A new Southern Health Board service has been launched in the county. The Family Welfare Conference Service will deal with families where concerns about a childs protection and welfare have been identified. The service will deal with a range of issues including challenging behaviour, absconding from the family home, substance misuse child abuse and parental difficulties.Children will be referred to the service by a Southern Health Board professional or by a judge from the childrens court. Families that attend the Family Welfare Conference Service will do so voluntarily and will have exhausted every other informal and formal avenue of adressing their difficulties. Some of the options open to families with the service are that the child stays with an extended member of the family or is placed in the care of the Southern Health Board. Its understood the F.W C.S.has been evaluated internationally with positive and encouraging results. The service is open to all families living in the county.
