A new scheme will help businesses in Kerry to expand their online presence.

That’s according to Fine Gael TD and Government Deputy Chief Whip, Brendan Griffin, who was speaking about the new COVID-19 Online Retail Scheme, which has a fund of €5.5 million.

As announced in the Government’s July Jobs Stimulus package, a new €5.5 million COVID-19 Online Retail Scheme has been launched.

Deputy Brendan Griffin says businesses with an existing online presence can now apply to the scheme for a grant of up to €40,000.

He says the fund is designed to help businesses to accelerate their online offerings to respond to both domestic and international consumer demand.

The Keel TD says the grant will cover 80% of project costs and can be used to fund fees for service providers, to develop and implement digital strategies, and to enhance the retailer’s website and related systems.

Deputy Griffin adds online trade is already so important to many businesses in Kerry, however with COVID-19, businesses need to maximise their online presence due to the drop off in footfall.

The COVID-19 Online Retail Scheme opens for applications on Monday, 31st August.
